Ensuring Strong Governance with Social Collaboration

11/28/16 11:35 AM

Just when you thought you had a handle on your SharePoint governance issues, the technology shifted toward social, which means that important discussions and key documents may have moved outside of your view. In an effort to improve end user engagement, many organizations have allowed this to happen. If we let people use the tools they want, they are more likely to participate -- and the business value of collaboration and communication increases when more people are using them. However, we still need a strong governance strategy -- and a firm understanding of how the tools our employees use can negatively impact our business. Governance isn't about shutting down rogue technology -- it is about understanding employee and business needs, and protecting business interests while also supporting those employees.

Beezy provides strong governance of social collaboration

Join us on Tuesday, November 29th, 2016 at 9am Pacific for a webinar entitled "Real-World Governance for Social Collaboration" where we will discuss the unique governance issues around social tools, and how organizations can prepare themselves for the transition from "systems of record" to "systems of engagement." You can register here.

Enterprise collaboration and communication tools and systems are constantly evolving and changing, but your governance practices should provide a steady hand. An important aspect of governance planning is understanding where you are as an organization (your organizational maturity), and what constraints and capabilities are available out of the platform.

The intent of measuring your social collaboration (or SharePoint) maturity should be to get a more holistic view of where you are as an organization, and to present your leadership team and key influencers with talking points for improving and optimizing your strategy. How companies rate themselves can be somewhat subjective – but there are tools and best practices available to help companies better understand where they are today, and where they need to go from here.

"You cannot optimize what you do not measure."
~ W. Edwards Deming

Managers need to understand that there is no one-size-fits-all strategy for developing a governance strategy. Reviewing examples from the community, including application of a formal maturity model for governance, can help you level-set against what others are doing -- and plan out your next steps. How you define and execute your strategy for moving to the next level might be very different from the strategies others apply within their organizations.

The purpose of this webinar is to share some of the insights from following the SharePoint governance maturity model, discuss gaps created with social collaboration, and to help participants to draw a line in the sand with the many consumer-based social collaboration solutions being used by their teams and begin to improve their internal governance practices. We will also show you how using Beezy can greatly improve your ability to manage social within the SharePoint ecosystem.
